WRIU is supported by donations from listeners. So once a year, we hold a big on-air fundraiser called Radiothon. Radiothon usually runs for eight days, from Sunday through Sunday, so you usually get a chance to donate on two shows in a row.
This year, Radiothon is happening April 11-18.
During those two shows, in addition to all the normal music and stuff you hear on the show, you'll also hear a lot of me asking for donations. That's because the station needs money to help keep things up and running. There's a lot of big expensive stuff that we use to broadcast to your radio (and computer) and if we don't ask for money, we might not be able to fix it if it breaks. So even though it isn't that much fun to have to ask for money, it's necessary.
When you make a donation to Radiothon, you also get neat stuff.
Everyone donating to any show on the station gets certain things depending on how much they donate. You can find out more about them on the station's premiums page.
Everyone donating to the station gets The WRIU Basics, which is a pen, a lanyard keychain and a pair of sunglasses.
Anyone donating to The Children's Show also gets this year's Listener Pack, which includes the 2010 Year Book, the 2010 Bill trading card and a Golden Ticket. A Golden Ticket allows you to bump your request up to the top of the list so it's the next song played.
Everyone will also get a raffle ticket for a drawing to win an Emerald Ticket. If you have an Emerald ticket, you can pick a half hour's worth of songs out and I'll play them on the Sunday you choose!
For every additional $25 donation, you get another raffle ticket, plus you get more of the WRIU station-wide premiums.
For donations of $25-For $25-34.99 you can get the Listener Pack, the WRIU Basics, 2 raffle tickets, and a 20-oz. stainless steel water bottle.
For $35-49.99 you can get the Listener Pack, the WRIU basics, 2 raffle tickets, and a black short-sleeved WRIU t-shirt.For $50-74.99 you can get the Listener Pack, the WRIU basics, 3 raffle tickets, the black WRIU t-shirt and a draw-string nylon cinch-backpack with a zippered pocket and a headphone port.
For $75-99.99 you can get the Listener Pack, the WRIU basics, 4 raffle tickets and a WRIU umbrella.
Finally, if you donate $100 (or more) to the show, you get your very own Emerald Ticket plus the Listener Pack and one of every WRIU premium: the pen, lanyard, sunglasses, watter bottle, t-shirt, cinch-bag and umbrella.
Best of all, you get to know that you helped keep the station and the show on the air for another year.
